Samarth Guru Param Sant Dr. Chaturbhuj Sahay Ji Maharaj

Every individual, by nature, seeks lasting peace and pleasure and desires sustained relief from pain and sufferings. Today the entire world is in search of means to achieve everlasting peace. However the biggest impediment, in this pursuit, is the absence of enlightened guide (master) who could teach us a process, devoid of strict rituals, which could be followed by all human beings.

Time immemorial efforts were being made by saints to device a simple technique of self realisation (Parmatma Darshan). A few systems of spiritual practices or Sadhana had been in vogue to attain state of equilibrium and peace in life. Several great souls descended on earth and worked incessantly for this cause to provide relief to the society. Based on their experience they evolved several practices for the spiritual upliftment of mankind which were arduous, cumbersome and time consuming. Dr Chaturbhuj Sahay ji (Popularly addressed as Param Pujya Guru Maharaj ji) is one of those great saints of India, who after attaining the highest spiritual enlightenment, spent the rest of his life in evolving very simple method to lead man to the same spiritual heights as he himself had attained.

Dr Chaturbhuj Sahay Ji was born on 03rd November, 1883 in Kulshrestra (Kayastha) family in Chamkari Village of Etah district of Uttar Pradesh. His Father Sri Lala Ram Prasad Ji was a highly respected landlord of the locality and was himself a very learned scholar of Sanskrit and learned scholars and saints often used to visit to his house. Dr Chaturbhuj Sahay Ji was benefitted by the company of learned scholars and he evinced keen interest in the Indian religious literature, Ved, Puranas and Shastras. Close association with learned great saints added to his quest of inner self and he acquired profound and deep knowledge on the insight of spiritualism. Later Guru Maharaj left the government service of peshkar and came to Fatehgarh. He learned Ayurvedic, Electropathy and homeopathy system of medicine in Fatehgarh, started private medical practice and provided free treatment to the poor members of the society. Sri Ram Chandra Ji Maharaj (also known as Dada Guru and Pujya Lala ji Maharaj), who later became Dr Chaturbhuj Sahay Ji,s Guru also resided in Fatehgarh. Lala Ji’s wife was not keeping good health and he used to visit Dr Chaturbhuj Sahay Ji for medical consultation for his wife. They frequently used to meet each other. After some time PLAGUE epidemic affected the public life at Fatehgarh. Lala ji Maharaj sent his family to his home town and both Sri Ram Chandra Ji Maharaj and Dr Chaturbhuj Sahay ji shifted in a room in Tirva Ki Kothi, a serene place away from the city. Here the association of two great saints grew stronger and stronger, Dada Guru realised the genius and quest for spiritual excellence of Dr Chaturbhuj Sahay ji. He gradually and silently started initiating him in the path of spiritualism. One day during the course of morning walk in the forest, Sri Ram Chandra Ji Maharaj saw a vacant cottage of a saint in the bank of river Ganges and introduced Dr Chaturbhuj Sahay Ji to the highest echelons of spiritual enlightenment. Power in the form of cosmic light got transmitted in Guru Maharaj in a very subtle manner and transformed his outlook. Later Dr Chaturbhuj Sahay Ji became one of the trusted disciples of Sri Ram Chandra Ji Maharaj and devoted his entire life in spreading his guru’s message to the needy aspirants.


Mahatma Ram Chandra Ji


Mahatma Ram Chandra ji was born on the auspicious day of Vasant Panchami on 02nd February, 1873 in Mainpuri, in a landlord family. His Guru Hazrat Janab Maulavi Fazal Ahmad Khan Sahab adorned him with the Brahma Vidya and subsequently designated Sri Ram Chandra ji Maharaj as his successor. Lala ji imbibed spiritual qualities from his mother who herself was a very religious person. Mahatma Ram Chandra Ji Maharaj got employed in Farukhabad in a government service and was well versed in Hindi, Urdu and Parsi and wrote several books.


Jia Maa


Dr Chaturbhuj Sahay Ji was married to Smt Indira Devi (remembered as Jia Maa) who was born on 26th January, 1901 in Agra (U P). Her father Pujya Lala Har Narayan Ji Kulshrestra was a religious person and Jia Maa had a profound impact of the spiritual environment prevailing in the house. She had the blessings of several saints including Mahatma Ram Chandra ji Maharaj and therefore attained a high level of spiritual awakening. She devoted her entire life to the visitors who were visiting Guru Maharaj for the spiritual learning. She ably assisted Guru Maharaj in his spiritual endeavours. She always ensured that all visitors to Guru Maharaj are well looked after and properly fed the food which she cooked herself. After Param Pujya Guru Maharaj left for heavenly abode on 24th September, 1957, she along with Param Bhagwat Shri Mihi Lal ji Sharma, popularly known as Pandit ji guided Satsang Parivar and spread Guru Maharajs’ message to every nook and corner of the country. Pujya Jia Maa was a very quite person but everyone felt blessed by her Maun preaching. Jia Maa left for guru dham on 28th January, 1985.
